At around $11, these scissors are a steal. As stated in the instructions, they come with a protective coat of oil on the blades. They are packaged in a reusable cardboard storage box with reusable plastic sleeves for scissors and thread cutters. They fondly remind me of my grandmother's old school scissors. Like my grandmother's scissors, I can see that they will last for many years if properly cared for. I was dying to use them, so I cut open a piece of cotton fabric to clean and test at the same time. Two layers of fabric can be easily cut through. Four layers is also easy. So I tried to cut eight layers into thin strips (free scissors just snag, grab and twist the fabric with the blades). The result is thin strips that require little manual work. But since I don't usually cut through eight layers at a time, I'm happy with the power required. I then attempted to cut out a few precise turns of the fabric, including part of the circle. The shears were easier to maneuver than I expected for their size. The only downside is that they are a bit heavy and a bit bulky for my hand (I have small hands). But they are well balanced and I can still use them with ease. IMO to get the same quality of cut in a lighter pair of shears you have to spend 2 or 3 times more. Metal carving scissors (not cheap plastic) are a great addition. Even the tape measure is a thoughtful addition.
