Hey I have a Dell Studio 1558 laptop and it gets very hot. So much so that the system responds to heat by slowing down the CPU to avoid damaging the chip. At this stage, good luck with the system shutdown: it's so slow. It took me some time to realize that the problem was actually heat. It doesn't help that the free RealTemp software I found has the disastrous side effect of revving up the CPU, causing it to overheat. Talk about a dimension that destroys the effect you are trying to measure. OK. I'm the cheapest person in the world unless someone reads this review of a $5 item. (In this case yes.) I think a cheap tool will usually do the job. Well, this fan is your cheap $5 tool (and free super cheap shipping). First, it works! There were reviews calling this item weak. I don't think so: to put a number, it's 1/8 inch thick plastic. window glass thickness. Laptop on it or if you put two laptops on it. Lots of things break windows with normal use, and they don't usually break. I agree with the reviewer who said this won't work well in bed: that's because the 3 fans on the bottom aren't protected and hit the fabric of the duvet. Finally, this item has rubber pads on the top and bottom to keep it from working. Don't slide around on the table and your laptop won't slide off. It has a very, very slight tilt, I'm guessing less than 5 degrees, so that helps with typing a bit. They waste energy and distract the user while working. Who wants that? (That's a rhetorical question: I know.) I bought 2 more from other laptops in the house. I find it incredible that laptops are designed in such a way that they cannot dissipate their own heat. Probably the same engineers who put the blue lights on the cooling fans.
