Last night I used a grater to make a small mound of grated ginger to add to the hot oil to start frying. I didn't know how to remove the protective case so I ignored it the first time and decided to wait reading reviews and asking for recommendations. Thanks to the people who answered the removal question. And thanks to the reviewer for pointing out how sharp a real blade is. With this guide in mind, I donned the safety glove I bought with my grater, grabbed one of my heavy table knives, and immediately removed the safety guard. And then I put it back on because I don't cook now, I just cook with a lot of ginger. Thanks to everyone who guided me to this tool and know how to use it safely!
