These are really great little UHF radios, especially when you consider the incredibly low price. The construction is solid and they fit perfectly in the hand. Programming with CHIRP is easy using the same cable I originally bought for my UV-5R units. So why buy these devices when competing digital display radios can only be had for a modest price premium, you ask? Because they're foolproof: after programming them with CHIRP, I can give them to a family member or colleague, and they don't have a chance to accidentally change settings or, for example, switch privacy codes while "learning" the menu. of curiosity. All you can do with the GA-2S is change channels with the rotary knob. That's all. The scan function is great, although without a display you have to guess what channel you're listening to when you want to switch to it, and you don't already know the channel from voice recognition. I'm deducting a star because there are a few small design flaws. For example, the channel numbers on the jog dial are difficult to read; Radioddity can easily solve this problem by adding some white color to the number pad. Also, the belt clip has no spring or hinge mechanism and requires flexing of the plastic to remove it from the belt. The batteries appear to be fairly light, meaning designers could use a larger cell (more power) in the same package. Finally, the charging station is apparently made in the same factory that many Chinese brands use, and is labeled "IN 110/220V", even though these chargers only take USB power and not mains voltage. In truth, I would have preferred chargers with wall mounted outlets, although other brand radio options here at Revain seemed to fare worse overall with these better chargers. None of these criticisms will deter me from buying more sets of these radios. , and it really is unfair to expect perfection at such a low price. Considering they're only $14 each, including tax and shipping, these small concessions are hardly worth splurging on. This is excellent value for money. Just buy the set and you won't be disappointed.
