In the end I decided to use them as a canopy light for my patio umbrella as they conveniently had 8 strands of LEDs and my umbrella has 8 arms. Even if you know that there are better products for it. I'm very happy with the results, although I decided to replace the included 4.5V power supply with a USB power supply and adapter cable that I made myself. They are slightly brighter than what you get from 4.5v so please note your lights may not be as bright as pictured. But also note that you can easily use 5V. If you want to be doubly sure, add a small resistor (10 ohms, 0.6 watts). I personally wouldn't mind.
