UPDATE 11/23/21. The two marathon timers have been in use for over 4 1/2 years and still work great. Just thought I'd let you know how reliable they are. ORIGINAL REVIEW 3-10-17: After purchasing several other kitchen timers and finding that everything was missing one way or another, we settled on the Marathon 24 Hour. digital timer The main reason we chose this option was the 24 hour timer feature as we often do slow cooking, sauces etc. This is a very easy timer to use. There is a switch to select one of three functions: timer, clock and countdown. When the timer is in the "Timer" position and the set time reaches zero, it will beep loud enough for multiple rooms to hear and start counting down automatically. I didn't think counting would be very helpful, but we appreciated it. In the actual "countdown" position, he's basically doing just that, counting from scratch. I think it would be useful for sports or if you just want to know how long it takes you to do something. And the clock setting is only one clock. We don't actually use it in the kitchen but my wife said she would like to use it for the upstairs bathroom to use as both a clock and a timer. So we bought a second Marathon for this room. The timer uses one AA battery (included) and looks well built. The battery cover is very tight, which I think is good, but some people may find it difficult to open to change the battery. And I should note that the timer indicator is always on, there is no switch. I assume the battery will need to be changed once a year, but that's just a guess. We've only had the timers for about a month so can't speak to longevity or longevity, but so far we've been very happy with both and have no problem recommending them.
