Stopped working after hanging for one month

Don't understand how a plug in cord just stops working. Received and it worked. Hung it up and it worked. Sits for one month and all of a sudden it stopped working. No damage to outlet or bulb. Had to buy a replacement cord and everything worked ok so I know it was this cord that died. This should last beyond one use. Be wary of purchasing unless you are buying for a one time use. This was used indoors.
