Review on G-Technology 2TB G-DRIVE Mobile USB-C (USB 3 by Joe Patterson

It does not include USB-C to USB-C connector and presents some quality issues

I have two My Passport portable drives from two different "generations". I have had very good experiences with them. Rather than buying another My Passport, I wanted to try this brand since it has a USB-C port. I'm using a MacBook Pro, so for me, USB-C means I don't need a dongle to connect the drive. When I unpacked the drive, my first surprise was that the drive has a USB-C connector but contains a standard USB USB-C connector :( meaning I have to use a dongle to connect it. That was my first disappointment, I brought the drive in December 2018, my goal was to use it as a backup drive for Time Machine, so I've only moved the drive once or twice from December to date, multiple times couldn't connect :( It doesn't bring me much confidence to use it as a backup drive. This was my second disappointment. In comparison, my oldest My Passport drive is a 500MB drive I installed about Bought 10 years ago. I have transported this drive several times and it fell to the floor several times. It has never lost contact! I will never buy this brand again.

Pros
  • USB-C; Compatible with USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt 3
Cons
  • Crumpled
