Easy to use hard drive, plug and play

As someone who uses a lot of hard drive space on my computer, I need something fast and compact to take with me on the go and it will work just fine. I've had a lot of hard drive failures and that's the main reason you buy an external hard drive in the first place, right?! This drive was easy to connect and loaded on my screen immediately. (See image) What I like most about this drive is that it's compact and lightweight, making it easy to slip into your purse and take with you.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

So far, so good! in data storage

I was so afraid of buying an external hard drive because I'm not tech savvy but my computer was getting old so I thought it was the Time. After some research and reading many reviews I settled on "G". It was very easy for a hobbyist to install with my Mac Book Pro, and it's small (about 3.5 x 4.5 inches) and very light, so that's a plus. I'd say it's tricky, but I'd guess over all. I don't want to throw any of them away, so I don't see the need for a rugged hard drive, just to each their own…

  • Top marks for support and durability from testers

What's not to like?

These small compact drives seem to be very durable and after a few months of use I'm happy with the two I bought together. I've bought G-Drives for my Mac/Unix servers in my professional life and they've performed well when properly protected by a surge protector, voltage regulator or battery backup. These particular devices were easy to install on my iMac Pro running macOS Mohave 10.14. My Mac asked if I wanted to use the first drive as Time Machine's automatic backup drive, so all I had to do

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Empty

Portable but won't stay in place

This hard drive seemed great at first. Good price per GB, USB-C connectivity, short cable and slim design. It would be the perfect drive if it worked properly. After a few months of use, I decided to make it the primary drive for my photos and iTunes libraries on my Mac. But I've found that I can't effectively use Lightroom or other photo editing software with the hard drive. It just doesn't stay installed in the operating system and causes Lightroom to crash unexpectedly. When I transfer my…

Two 4TB drives failed in 18 months

I bought this 4TB drive to use with my MacBook Pro. I connect it directly USB-C to USB-C, no hub. The first one stopped working after a couple of months - the computer recognized it but couldn't do anything with it. Mac Disk Utility couldn't "fix" it, and the Disk Utility app that came with the drive didn't do anything. So I have something else. He worked longer, maybe 9 months. The computer doesn't recognize that it's connected, although Mac Disk Utility sees it and says everything is fine…

Pros
  • Stylish aluminum design
Cons
  • Old

I have two My Passport portable drives from two different "generations". I have had very good experiences with them. Rather than buying another My Passport, I wanted to try this brand since it has a USB-C port. I'm using a MacBook Pro, so for me, USB-C means I don't need a dongle to connect the drive. When I unpacked the drive, my first surprise was that the drive has a USB-C connector but contains a standard USB USB-C connector :( meaning I have to use a dongle to connect it. That was my first

Pros
  • USB-C; Compatible with USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt 3
Cons
  • Crumpled

drive OK, but warranty service sucks

Don't be fooled, USB-C (USB 3.1 Gen 1) is as fast as USB 3.0. Faster speed is USB 3.1 Gen 2. Gen 1 is slower. This drive was easy to set up for Windows 10 and the copy speed was slow, around 100MB/s. With a 3 year limited warranty if copy speed is not a concern, it is very good value for money. However, after minimal use, the drive failed and the format failed - too many bad sectors. If you need warranty service, the phone will not be answered in 2 hours, and your email will not be answered in…

Pros
  • Mac Ready; Easy reformat for Windows

  • No performance
