Review on Precision Drilling with Huot 12250: Fractional Increments for Accurate Results by Jeremy Tyson

HUOT DRILL JIG

I've needed one of these for a long time to identify those stray drill bits I come across when rummaging through drawers or looking for the right bit to carve. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I spent 1/2 hour deburring the very sharp edges to avoid cutting myself while handling it. It was allowed to run one more round on the deburring drum before it was packaged and offered for sale. Those edges were SHARP! I sanded the outside edges with a coarse aluminum oxide stone and used an old countersink very lightly to try to slightly break that sharp edge on the back of the gauge holes. I've also filled in the stamped fraction sizes with a black touch-up pen, making it a little easier to identify the numbers against the glossy finish of the instrument itself. All in all, it's now a pretty useful tool to add to my drill drawer.

Pros
  • Made of durable steel
Cons
  • So far so good
