Review on 🌿 Efficient Algae Control for Ponds: Aquarium Pharmaceuticals PondCare AlgaeFix, 16oz by Jennifer Pimentel

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Chloramine doesn't outgas like regular chlorine, so you have to.

I just received my bottle of AlgaeFix and was ready to pour some into my "pond" which is a 100 gallon tank that holds a dozen medium sized goldfish and a few lotus plants I germinated from seeds he picked up from the ground at a local Buddhist temple. This is my first attempt at creating a water feature situation. I haven't had a pet fish in over 40 years so this might be the first time. And I've never tried growing lotuses, so it's all new to me. Because I'm afraid of having a bloody Zeke and West Nile petri dish, I asked my girlfriend and she told me to put goldfish in it and they would eat the mosquito larvae. The lotus should have a few inches of mud on the bottom. I was concerned about using tap water because of chloramine, chloramine doesn't outgas like regular chlorine so you have to add chemicals to get rid of it. We had a lot of big storms the day I bought the tank so I put some clean bins and barrels around to catch the rain that was running off the roof. I ended up catching about 700 gallons in about 3 hours so mission accomplished and then some. I laid mud and flooded with rainwater. I have transplanted lotus plants from the 5 gallon buckets I grew them in. I also loaded a pot of Baby Tut Papyrus just for fun. Then I went the next day and got about a dozen 2-3 inch goldfish for 49 cents each. I decided that I shouldn't invest in fancy, expensive fish until I figured it all out. A week has passed and I still haven't seen my fish, the water was cloudy from the silt and now it's started to turn green from algae. Ru Roh. I made a small frame out of PVC tubing and covered it with sunscreen I bought to shade my air conditioners. It seems to have helped a little, the seaweed isn't as bad as it was a few days ago, but I can't enjoy the pond as it's all hidden under a canopy. :(I called my girlfriend and she told me that they sell water products that kill algae so I went to Lowe's to find them. I bought some loose tablets that promised to purify the water. Well they did they don't.so i went to revane and read some reviews and decided to try this remedy.i ordered a bottle and was going to put some in the pond but when i read the label to find out how to use it i found a DEAD WARNING about the fact that you can kill your fish (and possibly your plants) if you don't follow the instructions! One thing he said is that you MUST have a pump to circulate the water and for one EFFICIENT aeration as processing appears to be combined with warm weather (we not warm but HOT!) deprives the water of oxygen and fish can suffocate! Plants too. Ugh. I don't have a pump, filter, none air pump or whatever. stupid idea that he'd take care of himself, but I don't think so. Due to the dire warnings on the bottle, I'm afraid to put this substance in water, so I just ordered a small pump with a UV filter and some spare bulbs for it (from Revain, of course). The UV light helps kill and control the algae, as well as circulating the water and aerating the fish to keep them going when I add the chemical. what they recommend to reduce the risk to my fish. I think (in my uninformed opinion) that two things working together should be able to empty the tank fairly quickly and safely. This 16 ounce bottle should last around 20 years! Unless I build another storage pond, which is entirely possible. I have a CPL for my camera so I can take good before, during and after photos so I'll update the photos in a few days. Whatever you do, READ THE LABEL AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!
