Review on Toshiba P300 500GB Desktop SATA 6Gb/s 7200rpm Internal Hard Drive - 3.5 Inch by Paul Philippe

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Clean formatted - low noise - update: one drive failed after 4 months

I bought two to use in a RAID 1 configuration. Both are clean formatted. I downloaded them straight away, currently around 60% usage. It's been about two weeks with no errors reported (according to the raid controller event log). I sit about 2 feet from the system which is a vertical block on the floor. I can't listen to discs. So far, so good. Update: 08/15/2018 Downgraded from originally 5 stars to 3 stars. Continue reading. One of the two hard drives has failed. I took out the disc and put it back in. It lasted a few days and then stopped again. The total period of operation - from May 29 to October 10 - just over 4 months. I have contacted Toshiba warranty support. They sent me an RMA number with return instructions. They followed that up with an email saying to expect a reward card 6-7 weeks AFTER receiving the disc. What to Expect I can't get a new disc? nope They will send me a Visa debit card for the original purchase price I believe. But I bought it on sale. The price was decisive. So not only do I have to pay more for the replacement drive (it's no longer available) but also for shipping it back to Toshiba. I have never encountered this warranty policy. This policy has some pros and cons: Pros: If I buy a new drive, I have the full original warranty period, not a reduced exchange period. I can now order a new drive if I have the means and use it in a few days instead of waiting 6-7 weeks for a replacement. Assuming they refund FULL of the original purchase price, I could get it cheaper than the original price. This could compensate for the return shipping to Toshiba. I don't need to buy another Toshiba drive. I could buy anything. Cons: If I can't find a disc for sale I pay more for it than I originally paid assuming I buy the same disc. very annoyed. According to the email, it takes 6-7 weeks after they receive the disc. This means that I will have no money for at least 8 weeks. I will update this review when I receive my refund.
