Review on External sound card BEHRINGER U-PHORIA UMC22 by Goro Shimada ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Medium quality, especially for that kind of money.

This card is far from ideal in terms of sound quality at the input, it has a strong intrinsic noise and a long delay. Recordings occasionally get clicks. For online work, to connect a microphone, especially a condenser or dynamic with a booster in line, this is a possible and acceptable solution, but recording on it is not worth even trying - a complete disappointment. In total, we have a budget device, for undemanding users, which is suitable for streaming, or just if you need to connect a condenser mic to a contuper so that you can chat on zoom or Skype, the options are cheaper - only junk with Ali. When connecting to MacOS, it is desirable to create a composite device. the map in the poppy is defined as two devices, one for input and the second as output. They write a lot about problems with drivers on WIN, I didn’t feel this, I downloaded it from the site and it all worked. On Linux, it started up like that with half a turn, just plugged it in, went into the settings, chose it - it works. After all the suffering, I use it to output sound from a Raspberry PI-based media center. In terms of the output signal quality, if you do not pay attention to the noise, this box, subjectively, sounds higher than my Pioneer BDP140 Blu-Ray player, on which I drive CD. I only had to buy TRS-RCA wires to output sound to the amplifier.

Pros
  • Solid case, works with any OS, at least MacOs, WIn, Linux, and according to rumors, you can connect to android. The output sound for monitors is very pleased, clean and detailed.
Cons
  • The mic input preamp is noisy like a kettle on gas. The headphones also make a noticeable noise when turning the volume. Clicks of unknown origin when recording, with and without plug-ins. Significant latency when using VST plugins. No RCA output. Dancing with a tambourine when connected to MacOS. There are no drivers as such, there is no software output volume control, the same “twist” is responsible for it and the volume in the headphones.
