Almost cost me my repair bill but I got lucky

Well, at first it looked like a great deal. I fitted a mini split (first :( ). I connected pressure gauge, pump (filled with oil first) and turned it on. Everything went fine, vacuum released quickly (it was my first mistake getting full vacuum) worked for 30 minutes, turned it off and let it set for another 30. Vacuum held, I thought everything was fine, something inside stopped me from trying again, but didn't want to get paranoid, and slowly opened the valves on the mini split to release the R410A. The gauge didn't move. "I thought, damn, there's no refrigerant in there! So I thought again, wait, I heard a little noise as the refrigerant valves opened, so there must be something in there. Took the sensors off and heard nothing. So just to double check I tried the other adapter that came with this kit and wow the gauges went high to normal In short (and partly due to my first visit to this Mini Split), I thought I vacuumed the system before releasing coolant, but I only did the line pressure gauge! I got scared and called the A/C guy and he was told it should be fine based on the very short run I did (10ft). I was very lucky, I turned on the system and it got cold! everything works now. If I had a longer wire set I would need an AC guy to siphon the system and add another 410. Time will tell if all is well in the long run. In the end the pump seems fine but the fittings are cheap and junk. I bought it because of the good reviews. Maybe I have a lemon? Think about re-entry studies.
