Advantages: very easy to clean; prevents splashes in the pan; appears to be fairly heat resistant; well maintained; keeps well in the pan. Cons: Due to the material and ventilation, the colander collects a large amount of condensate, which affects cooking. I have used it when cooking ground beef and it has worked very well; This prevented splattering and condensation wasn't a major issue as it kept the meat moist. However, when frying (e.g. bacon or anything with a lot of oil) condensation will affect the food and when the colander is lifted moisture will drip onto the pan causing heavy splattering. When water hits hot oil, it creates a huge mess and can result in minor injury. With practice I was able to minimize this, but it's not ideal.
