I bought this lamp to replace an old bedside reading lamp that has seen better days. Basically I wanted something that looked classy, but since we are renters I wanted something that was easy to install and VERY affordable. After all, we must not use this lamp in our next home. This lamp is bigger than I dared hope (for the price) and looks a lot nicer. Installation was easy once I figured out how to mount it (with two screws) to the wall. (Recommended: use a spirit level to keep the light even). The lamp can be easily moved from side to side. With the recommended 40 watt bulb, there's enough light to use as a reading lamp in the bedroom (where we have one). Okay, the shiny silver cord with a clear surface looks a bit gaudy. In a more permanent residence I would go to the local hardware store to buy a wire cover to match our walls. That being said, this lamp is excellent and surprisingly good for the price, well below what I expected from this lamp. Quality. An added bonus for those of us who suffer from occasional insomnia, it's easy to find the power button in the dark for late-night reading. With a 40 watt bulb, it also lights up a 12 x 14 foot room well. I definitely recommend them.
