I've only used it to burn discs 2 or 3 times but it was a good buy for me. The optical drive on my late 2008 13" unibody Macbook stopped working many years ago. I can't even fit a drive more than an inch into the slot. This external drive saved my day and now I have the ability to burn discs or download music straight to my laptop again. The writing speed was ok. plug and play I used both USB ports on my computer which are side by side on the left side of the laptop. One for data transfer and the other for extra power to the ZenDrive when burning discs. I am using OS X Yosemite. Comes with a pair of M-Discs, which are cool, although I'll probably never use them.
