Ordered as a replacement for an upgrade to enjoy "quiet" driving. Eventually I was able to install, only to find upon inserting a (new) AA battery that the first unit was DOA (no physical defects or damage, it just wouldn't turn on/work), the second unit also looked and was fine installed with no problems, however the device operates with a faint but audible crackling noise very similar to the operation of a miniature geiger counter (funny analogy, I know, but appropriate).
