Edit #4. A test drive plugged directly into a USB port (as shown below) (as shown below) works fairly well, over 400 MN/sr/W. Connected through this device, the CrystalDisk cannot even communicate. This is on Win 10. Will try again on a Mac MP 4.1/5.1 with Mojave. And Edit 5 will be the final report on this case in a few days. On Windows this seems useless. Currently downgraded to 2 stars. Edit #3. The test drive (an SP 500GB NVMe drive in a Sabrent USB 3.1 Gen 2 enclosure) gets about the same CrystalDiskMark when plugged into a plain old USB 3.0 as when plugged in (presumably 3.1 Gen 2 with an AbleConn PCIe adapter card in x16 ). Slot in the Z77 Asus Mobo with W10. I'll try a few different configurations as I'm suspicious of the AbleConn adapter. I have the same adapter in a Mojave cheese grater and will be looking at a few more. At Gen 2 speeds (10Gb/s), I should see something close to Gb/s on a drive that claims to be able to handle that speed. EDIT #2 Recommended when using the SATA connector on this device (SIENOC 22-pin (7+15) SATA Male Female Combo SATA and Power Extension Cable), makes the connection much easier. EDIT #1 Using a Good Extension Cable (USB Type-C Extension Cable Short 1.5ft OrxnQ USB-C Male to USB-C Female Gen 2 (10Gbps) USB-C Extension Cable) this thing works very well. Changed to 5 stars as I see it's very useful for both Mac OS and Win.Almo. st is unusable on my cheese grater MP 4.1/5.1. The connection cable (only 6 inches!) is too short to reach the USB stick without an extension cable. The extension cable I bought (Faracent USB Type C (3.3ft/1m) extension cable.) basically doesn't work with this device at all. Mapped drives are not visible. The devices I've tried (NVMe in a Sabrent case and a Seagate Iron Wolf 3TB SATA 3.5" SATA drive) work if (and ONLY if) I plug this gadget directly into the port, but not when using the aforementioned extension cable. But I don't want this thing dangling off the back of my cheese grater. Interestingly, when I plug it in directly, it only supports one connected device at a time. If the NVMe is via USB and the SATA drive is connected via SATA connections, Mac OS Mojave wants to extract the first connection to detect the second. I'm in a dilemma deciding how to play next.
