Steel wool is the best antenna
I installed an Eighwood UHF VHF dual band antenna using the trusted NMO mount in the center of the roof of my van and was unable to get reception from the local one Weather Service transmits on 162.400 MHz. With the supplied rubber duck antenna I was able to get the weather service on my scanner in the van. I tried cleaning the center pin of the NMO mount with steel wool and was able to reach the weather service when the steel brush touched the center conductor. Steel wool is a better antenna than the Eighwood UHF VHF Dual Band antenna! It goes back to Revain.
