Review on BRUNTON 8x22 LITE-TECH Monocular by Bill Howard

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good value for money

This is a cheap economy item but is good value for money. You will not buy a quality monocular for less than $20. Despite being an inexpensive device, it does have its uses. Check out the features and specs. This is a sturdy, waterproof device that shouldn't fog up (mine didn't) and works well outdoors. Magnification level 8X. A small increase, but if you increase it to 10x or more, it becomes more difficult to stabilize the image. The lens has a small diameter of 22 mm. Rule of thumb: the larger the lens, the more light it captures, the sharper and brighter the image. A lot of people say that 40mm is the smallest value they use for low- and mid-range monoculars to get a bright, sharp image. This device is of little use in less than daylight lighting. In my experience I would rate the close focus at around 20 feet. It uses BK4 prisms which are perfectly adequate, BK7 would be better. But for what you pay for it, you can't expect better optics. These are multi-coated lenses, so that will help. To give you an idea of what you can do with them. I can stand on my porch and read the house numbers across the street and five houses down. Just don't expect them to be able to spot small birds at 200 meters.
