Not flattering on women

I am 5ft 3in and weigh 126lbs. I bought a medium size. The high waist makes them look like 80's mom jeans. LOL I asked my 13 year old daughter what she thought, agreed it was a no and suggested I shouldn't dress her so high so I pulled her up my thigh which looked a lot better but then they sagged a little step up. lol maybe small would fit better? I'm not sure but I will send them back and try a different style.
