Review on ๐Ÿ’ฅ Specialty/Electronic Shock Absorber by Monroe - Model 40044 by Justin Santiago

Revainrating 2 out of 5

A bunch of them caused a ride control system error message on a 2005 Escalade (this was caused by Monroe - NOT Revane)

A couple of these bumps caused a terrible "Ride Control Service" message To show - 05 Escalade (all rear parts work properly) OBD II showed codes C0575 and C0580; - . which indicated a defect in the front damping system (shock absorber). Note: Shock absorbers were installed exactly as instructed and rechecked against General Motors detailed specifications. The problem has finally been solved, - . after receiving another set of Monroe 40044 front shock absorbers (last time from another supplier). After connecting the electrical connectors to them, the new shock absorbers showed that they were OK on OBD II; - . before they were completely installed on the Caddy. So, - . past new pairs were removed and newer pairs (from another manufacturer) were installed -. and then OBD II showed an error in each front shock absorber circuit AGAIN (codes C0575 and C0580)! Hubby! ... Then some of us put our thinking caps back on for the hundredth time. After careful comparison of the first, second, and third sets of shock absorbers,โ€” . We found that the electrical connections extended beyond the oldest (which had about 100,000 miles). And also, . After comparing them we found that the newer 40044 shocks (both pairs) had larger bushings on top of the shocks, - . which prevented the plug from being fully installed correctly (all the way down to ensure proper electrical contact). After removing the nuts from each of the last shocks installed - and a quick ride to grind the wheel to remove about 3/8" of rubber from the upper bushings - both plugs properly aligned, then both shocks and the system checked everything was ok so in general - looks like someone at monroe put in bushings that are too big (too tall) for the top of these last two front shock kits 40044. Shortening the last bushing set solved my problem a bit This was NOT a problem caused by Revain It was clearly shown - as a competitor's damper kit had the exact same set of upper bushings which were too tall!BOTTOM: If you are installing new front shocks on a 02-06 Escalade or similar GM SUV, - .You must be VERY CAREFUL to ensure the electrical connections are properly and fully seated (.which should rotate approximately 8 or 9 turns). ments are on the top (threaded portion) of the shock, above the top nut and with sufficient clearance (about 1/16 inch or more from the top nuts). Revain's price and service on these items couldn't be beat! permission to return the defective shock absorber bushings. I suggest someone at Revain Monroe update the situation with these 40044 shocked short, me too.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
