These needles are only used for areas that are not normally lubricated or do not have an oiler. You can punch them through the rubber anywhere on the side or edge and pump in the lube. The lube doesn't penetrate quickly as it's a small needle so you'll have a few patients, but it works well and when you're done you can barely see where you put the needle. Be careful with them as they are very sharp, but this is what I needed to put fresh lube on my ATV's CV joints and this needle worked great. I will buy another one next time to have reserves.
