The batteries provided are scrap and CAN cause some of the problems others are having with this product. I've been using other small digital scales like this for 10 years and these are great for weighing. down to hundredths of a gram, and the inclusion of a calibration weight is a BIG plus! As mentioned above, the batteries that come with the kit are complete junk and should be thrown away and not used. I used a DMM with a battery test setting to test the batteries that came with it and they didn't come close to what they should be for this unit to work properly. Energizer are the best AAA batteries you can use after years of using this type of scale. Secure the battery cover with tape and don't worry about it falling off or causing trouble. solves this problem pretty well. Decent, inexpensive scale. Will buy again but I will most likely buy the 50g max load version and not the 20g version.
