Expensive - but works great.

I wish this stuff didn't cost so much but it certainly did what it said it would. I tore a huge crack in the black tank of my sister's van and didn't think it could be fixed. The crack was approximately 2 feet long and zigzagged along the entire end of the tank. She ordered a new tank but after 13 weeks of waiting with no end in sight I decided to give G/Flex 655 and fiberglass strips installed a try. The tank is ABS and the G/Flex manual says it will work with that. First, I pushed the internally tucked pieces of the tank back out so there was no more than 1/8 inch of space between them. Crack, although I think it would work if the spacing was a little bigger. Then I ran a spoked wheel over the entire surface to roughen it up and improve traction. After that I washed the entire surface with acetone. I then applied a thick coat of G/Flex after mixing resin and 50/50 hardener. I covered the entire length of the crack and extended it a considerable distance just to add strength. While the first layer was still wet, I laid the fiberglass strips in wet G/Flex the full length of the crack and then added another layer of G/Flex over the fiberglass. Then I let it dry for 24 hours. The next day I applied another heavy coat of G/Flex and then let it dry for another 24 hours. It's amazing how well this stuff works. I poured water into the tank and not a drop came out. So I filled it up completely with water and then drove the trailer around town to shake it up and try to find leaks. I also drove on a bumpy gravel road. Not a drop came out. So I drained the tank, went over the repaired area with sandpaper and applied a coat of black paint to it. Now he's like new. I ended up using only half of the two liters of G/Flex I bought. So I have more for another repair. I wasn't too happy with the price of this stuff, but when I think about how much it's going to cost me for a new tank, it's money well spent. A new tank costs about $1,000 after purchase, delivery, and installation at an RV repair shop. A word for the wise, do not attempt to lift the jack by the links at the rear of the trailer. This was screwed to the frame with small screws (which I didn't notice). The frame began to warp and the bolts loosened, causing the RV (and black tank) to slide right over the jack when lowered. I'm just glad the tank was empty and I wasn't under it at the time.
