Bought 2 of these to monitor power to a mobile air quality lab. The installation is very easy. The ammeter consists of 2 parts: a ring-shaped probe and a plate-mounted meter. To install: #1. Run the Husky Main Wire through the center of the pickup. #2 Connect the 2 pickup wires to the meter. That's all. The only complaint I have is that you only get about 6 inches of signal cable. However, if needed, another 10 or 20 feet of 18 AWG can easily be connected. I don't understand how "physical magic" works, but the meter gives accurate readings and is completely passive: it works without phantom power, batteries, etc. In a 120/240V single-phase multi-wire system (line 1, line 2, neutral, ground) you need 2 units. An ammeter for line 1 and a separate unit for line 2. This ensures that the power consumption is adequately balanced. Perfect for my application. I can't ask for more!
