The brush in this set is synthetic and very soft, lathers well and glides easily if you are sensitive but not stiff enough to raise unruly hair before you shave. I don't really care because I usually shave after showering so my beard is already soft. Lately I've been shaving with the "Harry" razor, which fits nicely in this stand.
