I'm in my 60's and have been cycling most of my life. I tried SPD pedals about 15 years ago but in the urban environment where I live , I had some problems. So I went back to regular pedals and/or toe clips. But then I read about Shimano Click'R pedals designed for clip-on beginners and riders who ride in crowded areas. So I tried these and was really impressed with them. The cycling shoes I have use recessed cleats so I can run without ripping up the ground and still get an edge when I want to. With Click'R technology, you can get in and out really quickly and no longer worry about getting stuck in it in an emergency. However, they won't open if you don't want them to. Being able to wear regular shoes and use the platform side pedal is a plus when the situation calls for wearing regular shoes. The pedals are a little clunky, but it's not very noticeable when you pedal. And I love reflectors.
