Review on 🌽 Superior Performance: Premium Cast Iron Corn Grinder & Nut Mill by Tricia Pence

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I feel like I got what I paid for and I'm happy with it.

I am most interested in grinding wheat berries. I'm new to this so thought this product would be a fun/cheap way to get started and learn. It was. I haven't had any luck sanding everything that well. Even after multiple runs. I ended up with about a fifth of the flour consistency, with the rest ranging from that to fairly coarse. About what I expected as it is a "corn" mill and not a wheat mill. But I think I could do better if I practice. But the main thing I wanted to emphasize is that none of this prevented the wheat from making good bread. You just need to understand that before baking it needs to be soaked with it. All I did was boil some water in a kettle, pour it over the ground wheat and let it cool enough for me to add the yeast without killing it. Think the same way you soak beans or grains. Cracked Wheatberries turn to mush as the water cools to become warm. I've tried both 100% flour milled this way and a 50/50 mix of milled wheat and white bread flour. Both came out very tasty. 50/50 was the same density I use for store-bought 50/50 whole wheat flour and white bread flour. The 100% was a little denser than the bread I made with 100% whole wheat flour, but not overly dense. Soaked grated wheat gives the bread a very interesting and tasty texture. While I now intend to upgrade to a better grain grinder in the future, I'm sure I'll be returning to this one to intentionally get that texture back. Future. I'm still trying to decide between an affordable Victorio or saving and spending money on the Wondermill Jr. Likewise. It's one thing if someone dislikes manual sharpening and prefers electric sharpening. It's a whole different thing when you buy a manual coffee grinder and then complain that it's manual.
