I had another use for these
I used to buy these as wall protection but this time I ordered them for a different reason. We disabled the old wired smoke detector. After turning off the fuse, covering the wires and plugging them back into the junction box, I used that to plug the hole in the wall. It was much cheaper than products designed specifically for this purpose. There are lots of adhesive tabs so it's very easy to apply, but I know I can remove it if I really need to. For now it stays in place. Then I painted it to match the wall and it turned out great.
