The Intel Puma 6 chipset found in several cable modems is defective because it often allows high network latency spikes (e.g. slow loading of web pages). These sharp spikes in network latency affect online gaming, video streaming, or just browsing the web. Network jitter (variable latency) also causes problems. Puma 6 modems suffer from both latency and jitter. Some firmware updates only temporarily fixed the problem, and it looks like Intel doesn't have a real solution to this problem. These poor Internet connections caused cable modem maker ARRIS to get into trouble when a lawsuit was filed in California. By law, they were no longer allowed to sell this product. It's a shame it's still available and I highly recommend it.
