Review on Oral-B iO Series 9 Electric Toothbrush with 4 Replacement Brush Heads, Black Onyx: Dental Care Made Easy by Sharon Holcomb

Good toothbrush, nondescript extra features

This toothbrush does a good job of basic cleaning, but the extra features don't seem thought through or useful enough to justify the high price. There are seven brushing modes such as Daily, Sensitive, Whitening, etc., which can be easily changed even while brushing. In all honesty, I hardly felt any difference in my mouth as I skimmed through the list, but using one or the other can have long-term effects. When you start brushing your teeth, a 2-minute timer starts automatically. Every 30 seconds he makes a short (and easily missed until you get used to it) stutter that prompts you to move to a different quadrant of your mouth. It seems the only way to change this setting is through the app (see your mouth and not so easy to see unless you're looking in a mirror. There's also an interactive display that's used, to view settings and modes The display also tells you how long you have been brushing your teeth This display is also located high on the handle so it would be very difficult to read while brushing if you wanted to see how long you were brushing and it would be upside down anyway. The toothbrush comes with two chargers One of which includes a magnetic charging pad for everyday use. There is also a hard travel case for carrying your pen and toothbrush. The travel case has a power cord slot that allows you to charge your toothbrush be able to charge without taking it out of the case , the travel case isn't big enough to hold the power cord itself so it has to be carried separately I don't see any en sense in charging the phone in two ways. Now to the app. Revein doesn't mention anything about the app, but when you first open the box you'll be greeted with a "Getting Started" card that directs you to 1. Choose your language, 2. Load the Oral-B app , 3. Connect. OK and 4. Choose your preferred brushing mode. Like many people, I feel like I'm more attached to my smartphone than I really want to be and the thought of having to use my phone to brush my teeth was a REAL turn off. Since there weren't any instructions on the Getting Started page other than what I just covered, I dug deeper into the box and found some slightly more helpful documentation that makes it clear that I can use the toothbrush without the install app. He didn't tell me anything about what the app could do for me. I downloaded the app to check out its features and decided I wasn't so obsessed with taking care of my teeth that I needed a history of how often I brushed my teeth or for how long, or reminders to keep mine cleaning tongue or dental floss. etc. The only thing I could use is to change the 2 minute timer. Good thing the toothbrush works without an app as I've never been able to connect it to my phone. Why not? Apparently a PIN is required for pairing, and the PIN wasn't listed in the documentation or on the Oral-B site (trying the old backup codes 1234 and 0000 didn't work). This toothbrush requires Oral-B iO replacement brushes and cannot be used. with cheaper Oral-B brushes. Bottom line: I didn't expect the average user to like this brush.
