Review on Noctua NH-L9i, High-Performance Low-Profile CPU Cooler for Intel LGA115x (Brown) by Dean Partybus

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good quality, very quiet.

Highly recommended. I bought this for an Intel Pentium G4600 which comes with a pretty noisy and cheap fan. I should know better by now, but tried to get a cheap one first (heatsink and fan under $20). I had to send it back. The Noctua CPU cooler (low profile) is a bit expensive, but for the money you get good quality and very quiet cooling. Installation is a bit cumbersome as it requires access to the back of the motherboard, but once you install it, turn on the PC and hear no sound, you'll be glad you took the time and money. Don't forget to go into the BIOS settings and manually set the fan speed to very low or select the silent profile. Check fan speed with something like HWInfo64. Then install the included adapter cable to make the fan run even slower. I set it to 400rpm or so at 30C CPU. It is very quiet regardless of fan speed, but of course at >1500 rpm there is a slight whisper from the fan blades.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Sad packaging
