I got myself a respectable external disk with 2 terabytes of storage space. The primary function of it is to store backups. It is necessary to make copies using two desktop computers and a laptop computer, all of which are linked to a home network by a router. I plugged the disk straight to the blue USB port on the router, which is specifically designated for this use, so that I wouldn't have to lug it around to all of the PCs. After distributing a disk resource throughout the network, I am now adding files from each individual computer to the resource. Even a mobile device like a smartphone can access the disk if it is connected to WiFi and routed through a router. Files can be copied sufficiently swiftly with USB 3.1.
