My little box turtle loves this moss more than any other. It retains moisture fairly well (should be misted daily) and keeps it from getting covered in coir (or dirt). I laid this on top of a 3-4 inch layer of coco coir. Coconut fibers store more moisture. I also wet it every day and she loves to walk on it. I have a particular turtle that has a slightly twisted spine, so it's a little off balance. I make sure she has a good soft bed and some pavers to climb onto her bathing area. (Not too high - just slightly sloping). She is very fond of these things and likes to look for crickets to burrow into them. she is interested Works great and MUCH better than just "carpet" on the floor. Turtles MUST burrow, and that's a good thing. I try to be careful with her small eyes. She seems to be sensitive to coir so I make sure she has a good layer of it as she can burrow and it doesn't irritate her eyes.
