Each hopper holds about 15 pounds of small pellets (for ferrets or cats) when you empty the pellets from the bag. If you want to leave it in a bag, the bin will hold 10lbs total: two 5lb bags, or one 6lb bag and one 4lb bag, but probably not a 10lb bag. The lids snap tightly and the handle makes it easy to carry. They stack well; I stacked 3 on top of each other and am not afraid of them tipping over. I'm only taking off a star because I'm not sure how "tight" these containers really are. I think I could fill one with water, seal it, and tip it over, but I hadn't thought of that. After closing the lid, you can press a little on its center. But I can't hear any air blown from the sides. Maybe the air in the container is just compressing a bit? While they suit my needs very well, I just hope the pellets don't go stale (or worse, rancid!) before eating them. It would have been better if we left the pellets in their original pouches and then put them in these containers, but we wanted to mix three different types of pellets together. After opening the bags, two of the three brands purchased would not reseal, making it impossible to put everything back into the bags and close them. into ziplock gallon bags and back into these containers. Then I would know for sure that they are airtight. Or maybe I'm just paranoid.
