For a little basic knowledge I'd like physical media for lossless quality. I've used an LG portable DVD burner to rip CDs and it's been fine. However, I also wanted to rip my Ultra HD Blu-rays. This drive, as others have said, comes with firmware 1.03. This firmware does not allow you to rip Blu-ray Ultra HD with MakeMKV. I was able to easily upgrade to version 1.02 using a dedicated GUI tool. I can confirm that it now rips Ultra HD Blu-ray. Yes, it also rips CDs perfectly with EAC. The drive contains nothing but a copy of CyberLink Media Suite. What I just threw in the trash. I am using an OWC Mercury Pro chassis.
