IMPRESSIVE for internals

Works well as expected. Writes up to 100 GB TL discs. Play 4k movies. However, make sure that your computer is ready to play 4k content. Go to Cyberlink website and get the free download of "Ultra HD Blu-ray Advisor” which will give you lots of information. Mine came with a copy of the Cyberlink Media Suite 10 Ultra HD Blu-Ray for playing 4k content, but no screws or SATA cables.

Perfect BDXL-R/RE writes every time.

I use BD XL discs for my long-term remote archive dataset. I have used this drive to burn ≈ (40) 95GB discs onto Verbatim media. 100% success with perfect scans every time. The drive is silent and records them flawlessly in just over an hour and a half. Oddly enough, however, it sounds (muffled) exactly like looking for an old floppy disk drive when the computer it's installed on is turned on. started using Sony BDXL-RE discs for my backups and this drive continues to cut perfect discs every…

Does not play 4K UHD DISC movies. Very wrong in my opinion.

It plays 4k only non copy protected UHD store bought prerecorded discs on Windows10 or Apple. I've been told that early LG models that are basic Blu-ray drives, like the LG #WH16NS40 with firmware 1.0, "work" with 4k UHD so it can be "copied" to create a file that can be converted to "copy protected". " 4K disc copy. You also need the "FAB" DVD software. I will. I'll find out soon. ALSO the CD I received was not new. , Came in a plastic bag, opened with a worthless sample disc. Hooray!

  • Great price

Great for copying UHD discs, requires technical skills.

I installed this in a Vantec USB 3 case (which allows flashing): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MRUN0HQ/ Comes with sub-optimal firmware version to make MakeMKV to use (my choice of software copy software). It took me a few minutes to figure out how to burn a 'libre drive' compatible firmware. Once that was done, everything worked like clockwork. If you're interested, just google "libre drive makemkv" and you'll find what you need. Even without this, the drive works as advertised, reading

Doesn't support LTH BD-R

The specs on this disc clearly say it supports LTH (Low To High) BD-Rs, but this drive doesn't record anything except coasters. The WH16NS40 had previously successfully recorded hundreds of these JVC LTH BD-R discs prior to a firmware update, after which it recorded nothing but coasters. I replaced the drive with this WH16NS60 and it doesn't burn those discs either. WH16NS40 and WH16NS60 are the same drive with different firmware designed to prevent UHD Blu-ray copying. Apparently this new…

Great for ripping CDs and Ultra HD Blu-ray

For a little basic knowledge I'd like physical media for lossless quality. I've used an LG portable DVD burner to rip CDs and it's been fine. However, I also wanted to rip my Ultra HD Blu-rays. This drive, as others have said, comes with firmware 1.03. This firmware does not allow you to rip Blu-ray Ultra HD with MakeMKV. I was able to easily upgrade to version 1.02 using a dedicated GUI tool. I can confirm that it now rips Ultra HD Blu-ray. Yes, it also rips CDs perfectly with EAC. The drive…

Unreliable, don't recommend, but FAST. if it works

Received this CD today, sent it in the mail, no box, no packaging, just a CD and a software CD. Anyway, the drive worked to copy 2 of my 4k UHD discs after I patched the firmware (VERY easy these days; it took 2 minutes) but it's been having a lot of disc reading issues lately. This thing is FAST WHEN IT WORKS, although a word of caution, it failed to copy MANY of my new Blu-ray discs, and it smells too, this drive smells like burnt plastic and gunpowder. Nothing against China here, but it…
