My old lady said that our two bird buffs have a typical wide bowl on a stand, the other is also a wide bowl, but in a thick foam thing standing on the floor, they often almost freeze a clear. We're in the American Midwest and it's pretty damn cold out there. I have heaters in the water but sometimes the GFCI kicks on and the water freezes. A bummer for birds, squirrels and other small creatures that depend on it. I've seen up to twelve squirrels at the feeder and in the water in the winter, but rarely up to eight in the summer. I guess they depend on our food and water so we try to make sure it's always there for them. Our cats watch from two large windows overlooking the yard. Anyway, I digress. So sometimes birdbuffs freeze easily. That's why I have a rubber ducky for everyone. So if the duck moves in the wind, it needs to be thawed. We tried three different ducks. The first two swam, but not as well. One stayed afloat for more than a week and eventually sank to the bottom. The other swam very well, but anything but smooth. So I ordered two of these ducks. These things float great. They are well made and look very silly. They sway and even get blown away by a weak wind, which perfectly solves our problem. Not only that, but some of our neighbors have told us how much they like ducks. So if you're looking for a good rubber ducky, this is the best I've found. Inexpensive, appears to be made of good plastic, floats very well. I will update this review around this time next year, having looked closely at our ducks to see if the color changes as a result of a year of sun exposure. In the meantime, since you're reading my review, you know you want duck, right? Just do it, get duck(s), be happy! By the way, I only gave this review four stars because I'm saving that fifth star for things that are particularly/surprisingly good and of high quality, or because the seller treated us very correctly. For me/us four stars are great, a good thing. Five stars, surprisingly good stuff. Unfortunately one of our ducks was found with its head under water. No, it's not the duck's fault. We have two birdhouses in our garden, one on a traditional pedestal and one low to the ground for the small animals and bats in the backyard. Well, the duck inside apparently pissed off one of our guest critters so much that the duck got bitten a couple of times. So he took on water and after a while he just couldn't swim well anymore. Again, not the fault of the seller or manufacturer of the duck. Our other is still in great shape, swaying in a birdbuff with the breeze. So it might be a good idea not to put it in a low water facility so it doesn't annoy your visiting animals so much that they bite it. Got two more today, one to replace the dead one and another for a friend's little kid to swim in the buff. Have a super (rubber) duck day!
