Review on Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens, black by Wiktor Iwanski ᠌

I use this lens with the EOS 6D camera as a universal lens, I shoot cycling trips, people around me, landscapes, panoramas with it. To be honest, I vaguely imagine the use of this lens on a crop - perhaps, as a portrait lens. I really like the quality of the lens, in general, it is comparable to the 24-70 / 2.8L that I had. I was afraid that vignetting would interfere - it turned out that starting from F / 2.8 there were no problems, but on F / 1.4 it often turns out that the vignetting successfully emphasizes the central object, creating the effect of its “glow”. (Of course, vignetting can be removed in RAW processing with two clicks. ) Resolution pleases at all apertures. Of course, on open apertures (more than F / 2.8), the resolution drops, but this is not very annoying. Chromatic aberrations are almost invisible - there is only tinting of bokeh at an open aperture, which is inherent in almost all lenses of this cl. Autofocus in the field is quite accurate, but at F / 1.4 the depth of field is so small that when shooting living creatures, you must definitely take several shots, from which then choose one with the optimal sharpness zone. I was also pleased with the weight and dimensions of the lens - the EOS 6D with it differs little in weight from my old EOS 400D with Sigma 30 / 1.4. The camera fits into a very small bag, with which you can, for example, go skiing. I don’t like the notorious “proboscis” - in this regard, the Sigma design (both 30 and 50 mm) is noticeably more competent. I haven’t broken it yet, but that it actively dust into itself is a fact. I hope Canon will release the next version of the lens in a more modern design. In general, for a full frame, this is an excellent all-round gl that offers very good quality for a reasonable price. However, given the existing variation in quality among specimens, it is strongly recommended that you carefully select a good lens for yourself so as not to be disappointed.
