I have several small humidifiers like this one from different companies. I've bought a lot to see which one is better because these types of humidifiers are either hit or miss. So I've been using three different humidifiers at the same time and this one seems to be getting very clogged and stopped fogging. So I used a cotton swab to suck up excess water from a small basin. After doing this the first time, I noticed the Q-Tip turned gray. I didn't think about it at the time but then the fog stopped completely so I took another clean cotton swab and cleaned the tub and this time it went black. It appears to be all black. I cleaned it until the q-tip stopped showing color and ran mr again, it worked for about 30 minutes before clogging again, I used another clean q-tip and it went black again! So apparently I stopped using this gentleman because when I ran the same test with other moisturizers none of them had any discoloration on the cotton swab. I also use distilled water in all of my humidifiers, so the quality of the water doesn't matter. Something is wrong with this particular model. I would not recommend it.
