Review on πŸ“· Fujifilm XF55-200mm F/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS Lens by Marlo Schlachter

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent optics and assembly, small "problems ". perfect price

Great lens. Often this lens is compared to Canon's L series lenses, which is totally unfair as L lenses have a constant aperture, much higher build quality and generally better optics. This XT1 lens is just as sharp as the Canon 70-200 f4L at 5 dm3, but its bokeh isn't as nice and its color reproduction is surprisingly good. No "weatherproofing" which means nothing to me personally as I don't shoot in bad weather. For me, the lens performs best at around 95mm, where you get a wide open aperture of f4. Great for portraits with great color and bokeh as long as you stay away from over growth. Look up rental information for this lens to see how well made it is. It will serve you for quite a long time, which I can't say about cheap fantastic plastic lenses from the same line. Metal bracket versus plastic. It's sharp across the entire aperture range from center to edge, and the corners look a little blurry wide open, which is very common with these telephoto lenses. OIS allows me to shoot handheld at full zoom (300mm FOV equivalent) at 1/60 and get sharp images provided the subject is not moving. The XT1's autofocus is fast and accurate enough for most general purpose shots in good light. The only thing that bothers me is that the zoom lenses extend quite far and are large and heavy for the xt1. I would go with a battery grip, otherwise the lens feels a bit clunky. Vignetting is quite severe at the long end. To be honest, weight and length issues aren't exactly downsides. Comparing the weight to other plastic lenses is unfair as this lens is much better made out of real metal parts and the telescoping probably helps reduce glass elements. and none of the issues will make me dislike the lens at all. This is an excellent actress, overall this is an excellent job.
