After you've scraped your chains, this should be the very first thing you do with your new or repaired chains, before even plugging in and turning on the machine . But ! It's a thick oil. It sticks firmly to vertical surfaces. This means you MUST wipe down and roll up the splints thoroughly before each use! Neglecting this will cost you time, repairs and a lot of wear and tear on your tracks. If you live near the ocean or in a humid area, this is the perfect oil to wipe down a full inch of bare metal, including chucks and tool holders, when you leave the shop for more than lunch. If you oil everything and then drive away for a month, the car won't have surface rust when you come back. I recommend heavy canvas that is heavily stained with beeswax on one side and therefore oil on the other to protect your lathe, mill, table saw, wood lathe and drill. this is the cover. I live in the north where cars go down to -20C overnight and if you warm up the store frost and condensation will collect all over the metal and rust within hours. Our tools are used, lubricated and coated every time they are used. If you forget, you're out of a job. That is why it is important to use this oil regularly!
