I'm really hard on my dish brushes. I've never owned a sponge and will never buy one. I'm not a germaphobe but I do toss my brushes in the dishwasher after every use. That being said, they get a LOT of use. I really like the variety of styles, there always seems to be the perfect tool to tackle the job. They absolutely clean well. Feel strong and mighty in my hand. I gave 4 stars only because they already show significant wear on the bristles, after 2 months or so and actually they started a bit before now. The last sets I bought all held out to around the year mark. If you toss your brushes under the sink or what have you and don't care about their appearance then buy these. I keep mine in a little flower pitcher on the edge of the sink clean and ready for use so, meh, I wanted them to look fresh a wee bit longer but that's totally my quirkiness.
