Review on πŸ“€ Enhanced Viewing Experience: Sony DVPSR510H DVD Player with HDMI Port for Upscaling Quality by Ricardo Ware

Revainrating 5 out of 5

OK, but with an interesting error, I seem to have settled on

OK, I received this unit from Revain yesterday and watched a movie on it last night. While everything looked fine for the most part, the term "mostly" is thought-provoking. That's because the screen went completely black for a few seconds every two to five minutes, and this happened continuously throughout the movie. The sound has never changed. I've tried different HDMI cables and different HDMI ports on my receiver and the problem persists. (I have three Samsung 4K players hooked up to my 7.1.4 AV system and they never have any issues with the different jacks they normally use when I've tried them with this player.) I bought this player to run normal DVDs in my collection - around 200 of them around 600, the latter being HD releases. The idea behind buying this player was to use 4K players only for HD content and the new Sony only for DVD. Reduces wear and tear on expensive players. Anyhow, the user manual doesn't say anything about operating the device or possible problems (OSD menus are pretty cryptic too), but it does say that something might be wrong if there's no picture or sound when connecting to the HDMI port The problem can be solved by going to "HDMI Setting" in the player's menu and changing the HDMI resolution setting, of which four options are available. A setting to fix a potential problem wasn't mentioned, but the main function of the player is for the owner to use the highest resolution setting, so I assume the zoom function will be involved. I went into the menu and changed the resolution to the lowest resolution available, 720-480p, and then watched another movie today and had no problems. It looks like the problem was with the zoom feature, and disabling it solved it. Luckily my big Samsung 4K TV can upscale too (perhaps the player's upscaling function somehow conflicted with the TV's own upscaling) so I still get an amazing DVD picture thanks to the upscaling in the set, and I hope that Player will continue to work normally in this mode. The remote control is fine and I even played a CD on it to make sure this function works (I have a TASCAM professional CD player in my AV system, hence the ability of this Sony player to play CDs and discs , doesn't matter to me ) and I used the tracking error test CD I have to see how the player fared in disc torture tests and the player achieved impressive results. I'm not sure about the durability of such a lightweight player, but the price was so low that even a year or two with the performance I'm getting now would be acceptable.

Pros
  • . Wide range
Cons
