My 2007 4Runner had a latch that wouldn't stay latched. I've tried cleaning and lubricating it but the corrosion is too severe. I found that I had to replace the rear wiper to keep water out. Then I bought this item. The item looked like new and fit perfectly. But note 2 caveats. After the installation there was initially no reaction. I had to disconnect the negative battery terminal for a few minutes and then reconnect it. After that, the latch began to respond. Second, the rope attached to the mechanism is key. After installing the latch and closing the door, the door did not open. I pulled the rope and it opened the door. I can't remember if it was before the battery trick or after. I left the rope on the door for a few more tests before everything worked properly; then I removed the line. The lock works great and I'm very glad I don't have to deal with an unlocking door.
