Review on 📷 Godox UBW 47" Octagon Umbrella Softbox: Professional Studio Bowens Mount Ring for Strobe Speedlite Flash Photography by Anthony Juat

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Would be 5 stars but has some issues

I was looking for a Bowens mount portable octo box that folds up like an umbrella for use with my Godox 600BM portable flash and this Octo does exactly that. The assembly is difficult due to the lack of instructions, but is not difficult to accomplish. After assembly it works great. Each time you open the Octobox, you need to pull back the outer diffusion plate to slide the umbrella stem through the hole in the inner diffusion plate; a bit annoying at first, but it's not really a big problem. I'm not worried about using the included carry case as it's difficult to fit an octopus in it. I just wrap a small hook string around the umbrella to keep it from unfolding and pack it in a photo trolley. Structurally, it gives the impression that it is made of very high quality and durable materials. It is larger and heavier than a standard umbrella. So if you want to use it outdoors with the Godox AD600, I recommend using the Godox AD-H600B extension to reduce the load on the light stand (Godox AD200 with Bowens). The mount works well too). Sandbags are absolutely necessary, but should be used anyway. The BIGGEST problem I've had with this Octo is that every time you close the umbrella, the frame poles that hold the softbox's shape keep slipping out of the pockets. end where they sit in the fabric of the softbox. This was REALLY annoying, but it was an easy fix using a hot glue gun, squirting some glue in each pocket, and then pressing the rod firmly into the pocket. I was worried the connection wouldn't hold up, but it works surprisingly well. The light quality is soft and beautiful. Portability is good. And the general build quality is excellent and solid. If you put a little effort into improving it yourself, this is a great product.
