Yes, there are brands that are more fashionable. Yes, there are cheaper generics. But why buy something so expensive if you don't use it every day. Or why buy a generic brand you're not sure about? I have used Black and Decker Tools for many years. All my garden tools are black. I'm starting to collect power tools from the same brand. It all started when I was an independent and poor college student. Now that I can afford a better brand I still prefer to go with the Black and Deck because all those power tools I bought 10+ years ago still work. I really only needed a heat gun for this project and I put off long enough to get one. Because I thought I could just do it with a hair dryer. Eventually I gave up and invested in one. I chose this brand because I have experience with this brand and other general heat guns under $15 (regular size and pocket) have mixed reviews for the melting tool itself. This is a great product! Two settings that are more than hot enough. Has a safety stand so you don't melt your workspace. Even the switch has a protective cover. I went for an open box with minor blemishes and it worked great like new. I save about $5 after taxes. Removed the sticker bomb from my new everyday car in one fell swoop. As you can see, before I started without a hair dryer, I took a few pictures, but even with the hair dryer it took just over two hours. When I used the heat gun it took me less than 30 minutes to get the residue off. This is one of the best investments I've ever made! Note: You will see some smoke for the first few uses, but this will fade over time. It is in order. Google it. This unit itself is worth something, just do it!
