Buying batteries is a headache. They're expensive. And it's always frustrating when you get a new electronic device or toy for your child, only to realize you don't have fresh batteries. Then it's either "borrow" batteries from another device or go to the store to get new ones. And on the eve of the holidays, you're lucky enough to find AA or AAA batteries in stock. But investing in a charger and batteries will save you a lot of wasted time and frustration. Overall, this is a good buy, although there are a few pros and cons worth mentioning first. WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT THIS CHARGER:1. After fully charged, the batteries retain their charge well.2. They come with handy little cases for carrying the batteries. That way they don't lie around (because you don't have a package from the store to keep them).3. You can see the state of charge of individual batteries in real time. This feature is a game changer when it comes to battery charging. Usually you just have to let the batteries charge until you decide they're ready or test them. With this charger you can see which batteries are already fully charged and which are still being charged. WHAT'S NOT GOOD ABOUT THIS CHARGER: 1. Batteries take forever to charge. Amenker never states how long it will take to charge them. Just that it's "Fast Charge". Several other brands sell the exact same chargers and batteries (presumably made in the same factory in China). I noticed that reviewers from these other brands state that it takes around 4-5 hours to go from dead batteries to fully charged ones. It took me at least 12 hours to finally get the green light (meaning a full charge) for even a bay with eight charges. If your batteries are dead and you have new spare batteries, this may not be a problem. However, if you use all the batteries in your house at the same time and some of them die, you basically have to wait a day before you can use the dead batteries again. I just think 12 hours is too long for an AA charge. Should I buy this charger? Difficult to say, honestly. I really like the benefits of this charger. It costs about the same or a little less than the 100% identical chargers sold by other brands (they just changed the brand name). But I'd also be tempted to spend $10 more on a charger than I can fully charge the batteries in four hours. So it's not a bad buy, just be prepared to wait 12 hours when you need to recharge dead batteries.
